What it does

A quiet reading layer for Chinese webpages.

Hover over Chinese text to see a compact word card with pinyin, English definitions, simplified and traditional forms, and possible word boundaries. If hover is not reliable on a complex page, select Chinese text to open the same focused lookup experience.

When a word or phrase is worth remembering, save it together with the source sentence and page context, then review or export your saved learning items later.

Key features

Built for learning moments, not page replacement.

  • Fast local lookup.Uses packaged CC-CEDICT dictionary data bundled with the extension.
  • Hover and selected-text lookup.Supports quick word checks, phrases, longer passages, and complex webpages.
  • Candidate word boundaries.Helps learners see where Chinese words start and end while reading.
  • Save and export.Save useful words and phrases locally, then export to Anki Basic CSV, regular CSV, or JSON backup.
  • Adjustable reading controls.Tune pinyin format, tone colors, hover delay, selection behavior, and lightweight highlights.

Why it is different

Chinese stays first.

Chinese Reading Lens is not a full-page translator. It helps you keep reading Chinese instead of replacing Chinese with English.

It is also not a heavy annotation tool. By default, it avoids cluttering the page with large overlays, full-page coloring, or constant labels. Reading stays first; help appears when you ask for it.
